Final Fantasy III PSP quietly launches in North America next week

Starting next week you’ll be able to play Final Fantasy I through IX all on two platforms.

PSP is a given, though PS Vita will also get in on the action if FFIII's PSP version is comparible with it. Compatibility with Sony’s newest handheld is currently unknown, but Final Fantasy III for PSP is set to launch Tuesday September 25th in North America – just five days after the Japanese release.

Final Fantasy III gets PSP box art, becomes OUYA launch title

Square Enix has revealed the Japanese box artwork for the PSP version of Final Fantasy III and confirmed that the title will be available for the upcoming OUYA machine on launch day.

The PSP box art is exactly what you'd expect - a pretty CGI render previously seen for the DS release featuring the four main characters, an airship, a Chocobo and the game's logo, drawn by Yoshitaka Amano. It's very Final Fantasy.

Square Enix has released over 40 new images of Final Fantasy III for PSP, showing new art and in-game screens.

It also shows the game's English language support for the first time. The game will feature duel language support with English and Japanese.

Final Fantasy III's PSP port has dual language options

Importing just got a little easier for those looking to play Final Fantasy III when it hits PSP in a few months.

This week’s Famitsu mentions an English text option for the game, which will apparently come available once you switch your PSP’s settings over to English.

Final Fantasy III is due for PSP this September in Japan. A western release hasn’t been announced but today’s news doesn’t put it too far out of the range of reality.

First Final Fantasy III PSP Screenshots Released

As we reported only the other day, Final Fantasy III is finally set to make an appearance on the stronger of last generation's handhelds, the PSP. Square Enix released the first screenshots for the port today along with a better idea of the specific new features that this version will be providing.

Along with the expected 16:9 screen ratio support that Widescreen gaming provides, a Gallery mode available for players...

The recently revealed Final Fantasy III for PSP now has its own official site and trailer.

Set for release on 9/20 in Japan, this version of the classic RPG is a port of the DS remake which is already also available on iOS. Players will have the ability to change the music between that of the remake and the original Famicom version.

A western release has yet to be announced but considering the game is already localized it wouldn't be too far of a stretch....

Final Fantasy III will be making its way to PSP if Jump magazine proves to be correct.

A scan detailing the game has surfaced online which dates the game for September 20th in Japan. Visually the game is similar to the DS version but now supports a widescreen view. The game is set to retail for 3300 yen and allow you to change between the newer type of bgm music and the original Famicom style tracks.

Presumably FFIII for PSP will also fall under the 25th anniversary branding similar to FFI...
