Studio Ghibli's "Ni no Kuni" Comes to PS3

Posted on June 24, 2010 by Zack Reese

The famed animation studio is bringing another version of their game to Sony's console.

Level-5 has recently announced that their once-exclusive Nintendo DS adventure title "Ni no Kuni" would also be coming to Sony's Playstation 3 under the subtitle "Ni no Kuni: Queen of the Holy White Ashes." The game is not a port, as the studio is aiming to create two different games based in the same world.

Studio Ghibli, the famed studio behind such animation instant-classics like Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Howl's Moving Castle, has been working behind the design of the game. Screens were shown in the latest July 2010 issue of Famitsu where the news first broke around the news sites.

"Ni no Kuni" tells the story of a young 13-year old boy named Oliver who comes across a doll that he received from his mother who recently passed away. The doll suddenly comes to life as Shizuku that gives him a magical book that can transport him to the parallel world of Ninokuni where he is given the chance to revive his mother. Players will utilize the magical book during combat where they will have to draw the spells using their "wand" on the screen.

"Ni no Kuni" will be released for the Nintendo DS in Japan on December 9th of this year. The Playstaiton 3 version is currently scheduled for sometime in 2011.

Anyone else extremely excited of the prospect that we will finally be able to witness Studio Ghibli's prowess in the animation department in full 1080P with uncompressed technology?

This makes me very sad I watched the first 30min ptseod on YouTube and the game looks amazing on the DS (secretly hoping for 3DS version??!!).I'm very likely to pick up the ps3 version as I love the Studio Ghibli art and the wonderful music.I wonder tho if they released a 3DS version could the magic book be integrated in similar way to how you can view game manuals like with Mario 3D Land?

I am going to end up importing and reyinlg on the Kanji to roughly understand the story Don't see why they are not looking at a 3DS release unless Level-5 is scared that the install base is too small

Sweetbearies, I'm sure your nephew will like it. And you might like it, too, beuscae Hayao Miyazaki movies aren't just for children. They have a lot to offer adults. Of course, this one has just now come out, so the people of Japan get to see it first! But we'll get our chance soon.

Can't see why they would be scared for a 3DS reseale? 3DS is selling well now and because of the pokemon-like aspect of this game, I can't see there being much of a problem to get resealed on the 3DS. I hope it does

Justin: Yeah, there's just something kind of odd/"off" about the first one, isn't there? It's like the white witch is tankig a little break from her real pose or something. It's just so ... casual. And, honestly, the witch could look a little more dramatic, IMO.Anyway, I agree with you that it would be great if the "All-in-One Edition" cover were used for the NA release, too. It certainly would catch the attention of more gamers than the current box art, that's for sure.BTW, I'm jealous that you're going to be able to play this and I'm not. For the time being, anyway :)

There are certainly a lot of paruictlars like that to take into consideration. That could be a great level to convey up. I offer the thoughts above as common inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you carry up where the most important thing shall be working in trustworthy good faith. I don?t know if finest practices have emerged round issues like that, but I'm positive that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Each boys and girls feel the impact of just a second’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.

Haha yeah, I think I did hear something about how the CoM gemaplay was a bit of a pain in the ass. If memory serves me right, the whole game sounded like one long dungeon troll?

Anonymous18.
